Lead found in Northwest Cabarrus High faucets

CONCORD, N.C. (WBTV) - High levels of lead were found at Northwest Cabarrus High School.

Samples of water taken from a visitor concession stand faucet and kitchen handwash sink tested for lead revealed 13.51 parts per billion and 39.52 parts per billion, respectively. North Carolina’s state action level is 10 parts per billion.

Prolonged lead exposure has been linked to learning problems, slowed growth and development, brain damage, and more, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The tests were performed as part of the Clean Classrooms for Carolina Kids program. The state-mandated program tests for lead and asbestos hazards in public schools, licensed child care centers and licensed family child care homes.
